Symposium "Finnish microbes - an underused resource"
The microbiological societies in Finland arrange in collaboration with the American Society for Microbiology this one-day symposium, taking place on May 4, 2017 at Biomedicum 1, Lecture hall 2, Haartmaninkatu 8, Helsinki (registration by April 20!).
The symposium focuses on the Finnish microbial resources and especially their future conservation in national culture collections which enables wider exploitation in bioeconomy.
The symposium program includes presentations about how the current act on genetic resources affects microbiological research and how the Convention on Biological Diversity affects culture collection work. The President of the European Culture Collections´Organization Nelson Lima will speak about the current situation of the culture collections in Europe and the Microbial Resource Research Infrastructure (MIRRI).
The aim of the symposium is to provide timely information essential for all scientists working in the field of microbiology, and to enhance networking and collaboration among microbiologist and microbiological societies in Finland.
